The Procrastinators’ Weekly Writing Prompts: Song

Dear Procrastinators and Friends!

Here are the prompts from our Sunday meeting. This week, we were writing about songs.

Prompt 1: Use the word ‘song’ as prompt for a free write. The song of birds, the song of sirens, the song of the sea, any song you can think of.

Prompt 2: Take the title of a song you like/dislike and use it as title for a story or poem

Perhaps it’s a song with a special meaning for you?

If you don’t want to write about a personal experience, write a story about a couple’s ‘first dance’ at their wedding, or: write about an unknown band trying to come up with a hit single.

Prompt 3: Use one or more of these song titles from Ed Sheeran’s new album in a poem or story.

Prompt 4: Five Songtitles Challenge.

Write a poem/story including five songtitles of your choice. Here are a few, in case you’re stuck:

‘Imagine’ (John Lennon)
‘Moonlight Drive’ (The Doors)
‘Hotel California’ (Eagles)
‘Someone you loved’ (Lewis Capaldi)
‘ Stairway to Heaven’ (Led Zepplin) or ‘Highway to Hell’ (AC/DC)

If our prompts inspire you, please leave a link to your piece in the comment box below. Alternatively, you can email your poem/story and we will feature it on our blog.

We publish new creative writing prompts every week after our Zoom meeting.

Thanks for stopping by.

Enjoy your writing, and, until next time!
